Nineteen of the Russian's 21 victories have been achieved on hardcourt

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev secured his maiden trophy for nearly 30 months with victory over opponent Moutet in the tournament final.

Medvedev, a ex- world number one, has endured a difficult year, achieving just one win at the big events and experiencing a meltdown at the New York tournament.

The player's varied form on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serve in specific - resulted in him dropping out of the world's top 10 and finally splitting with long-term trainer Gilles Cervara.

Currently training with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, he has consistently advanced in the past month - peaking in a tightly fought three-set victory over challenger Moutet.

It is his first title after the Italian tournament and initial on a hardcourt since March of that year.

Victory also indicates the Russian has won 21 championships at 21 distinct competitions.

"It's the first time I have attended a event with my children at once, so to secure a title is particularly special," commented tennis professional the champion.

"This title is in honour of my younger daughter Victoria, because the first title I got when my child her name was born was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had been defeated in his last six title deciders, featuring in that event previously this season.

The player's retrieving approach and frequent outbursts on court had caused some to question if his ability to perform at the elite level was over.

However the athlete has implemented adjustments in the past month, striving to advance forward and play aggressively, supported by an enhanced service.

He fought back from a disadvantage in the first set against the difficult opponent, winning four of the final five points to gain the advantage.

Both players traded breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, attempting for his initial tour victory, took control to create a third set.

He rescued 4 initial opportunities in a competitive deciding set before the Russian broke to that score to close out the victory.

Suitably, the winner clinched the win with a point at the net area, with the Frenchman unable to manage a volley after over two and a half hours.
